Application Updates: Optional, Recommended, and Mandatory

JazzPianoLab regularly receives updates to improve features, fix bugs, and enhance security. Updates are categorized as follows:

  • Optional Updates: These updates add new features or improvements. You can choose when to install them, but we recommend staying up to date for the best experience.
  • Recommended Updates: These updates address important improvements or non-critical issues. It is strongly advised to install them soon after release.
  • Mandatory Updates: These updates are required to continue using JazzPianoLab and its related services. You must install mandatory updates when prompted, or you may lose access to the application until updated.

You will be notified in the app when a mandatory update is available. Keeping your application up to date ensures you have the latest features, security patches, and compatibility with our services.

JazzPianoLab is a powerful desktop app for learning, practicing, teaching, and mastering jazz piano. It features real-time chord recognition, a robust chord library, custom training drills, ear training, a score editor, and much more. It’s designed for everyone from beginners to pros—including educators, content creators, and hobbyists.

It’s perfect for jazz pianists of all levels, but also useful for pop and classical players, teachers, YouTubers, and bloggers looking to analyze or explain harmonic content.

Yes! JazzPianoLab is under active development. We're constantly adding new features and improvements. You can submit feature requests and suggestions through our support tickets — we love hearing from you!

We are currently starting beta testing and welcome early subscribers to join our community with a special offer. The official release of JazzPianoLab is planned later this year, once we finalize all core features and improvements. Please note, the price will increase upon the official launch.

Yes! Every annual subscription includes a 7-day free trial. You can try all features risk-free. If you cancel your subscription before the trial period ends, you will not be charged. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, you will be charged for the annual subscription and no refunds are provided after payment.

No, a JazzPianoLab license is OS-specific. If you want to use JazzPianoLab on both MacOS and Windows, you need to purchase a separate license for each operating system.

One device at a time. If suspicious usage is detected (e.g., sharing your license), your account may be suspended without refund.

Yes. If you reinstall your OS or switch computers, please deactivate your license first and then re-activate it on a new computer/OS.

Yes, an internet connection is required to run the app. There are multiple features that rely on online access.

Application & Functionality

Play any notes on your MIDI keyboard and see the recognized chord instantly. The played interval or chord will be displayed as text and musical notation. You can customize the Chord Identification engine to suit your learning style, including True Intervals display.

JazzPianoLab comes with a default preconfigured Chord Profile that includes most common chords and their variations. The Chord Profile System allows you to import, export and create custom profiles from scratch or off existing ones. You can rename chords, add new ones, and set rules for display and variations. You can read more about Chord Library in our Reference Guide. Feel free to suggest new chords and variations by submitting a support ticket — we're always looking to expand the library! Also you can share your custom Chord Profiles!

Yes! JazzPianoLab includes a Score Editor. You can enter notes directly using your mouse or MIDI keyboard, use tools like the Eraser, consolidate rests, tie notes, and adjust time and key signatures on the fly with real-time score reflowing.

Yes! The app includes highly customizable drills for:
  • Notes
  • Intervals
  • Chords & Chord Inversions
  • Chord Progressions
    You can choose the exact chords or progressions, the key(s), and how the keys change (e.g., randomly or by interval). The practice engine even allows you to clone scenarios and override settings like tempo and repeat counts.

Yes! Create training sessions that play intervals, chords, scales, or simple progressions. You’ll hear the sound and have to identify and play it correctly on your MIDI keyboard. You can practice in Automatic mode for continuous flow, or use Wait for Note mode to advance at your own pace, complete with visual keyboard hints if you get stuck.

Yes! The built-in metronome supports:
  • Custom tempo & sounds (frequency)
  • Time signature (including odd meters)
  • Pre-count measures & smart muting before downbeats

Sure! You can record and play your composition inside the application. Then you can export it as a MIDI file for use in your DAW or other music software.

Yes, JazzPianoLab is built around MIDI keyboard\synthesizer support. You’ll get the best experience this way.
